Mark Dettner

I've recently learned that Mark Dettner passed in March of this year. I have no more information related to his passing. For those that knew Mrk, please leave some memories on the site. Rusty

Mark was one of the real good guys. He had a great sense of humor. Always treated people with kindness and respect. I remember when decidied to pull off His teeth braces before it was time to have them pulled. I remember his dad was a great guy who just about came on gluedwhen he when he did it. Many fond memories of Mark and his beautiful sister Kathy. Hope all is well with you Kathy, I'm sure he's missed

Sorry to hear this. Mark and I were really good friends, especially in Jr HIgh at Davis. His dad was a great guy and helped coach our Harbor Area baseball team one year. We were part of the Mesa Del Mar crew, which included Jack Favour, Phil Le Valley, Don Duran, Dana Rodet, and many of the cutest girls at Davis and Mesa! Those were certainly fun times, as we often would hang out late after our baseball games in the summer, at one house or the other, sometimes swimming at my house around midnight :) I was fortunate to have Mark as a friend!

I went steady with Mark in the eighth grade. I was so excited to wear his St. Christopher medal. I recall it being my favorite. I lost touch with Mark after high school except for two lengthy telephone conversations which I treasure. I learned from him and I loved his free spirit. My prayers are with Kate and the Dettner family. May Mark rest in eternal peace.

When many of us were drowning in the swirling ocean of time that we all knew quite well, Mark could be like a life jacket thrown our way to catch us with his humor and kindness. He had the rare quality of being non-judgemental; observing people and situations without labeling them.

Reflecting on those times, they come drifting back as a shape of change, encircled by its fire. I think that each of us that knew Mark then, might think of him now as one that was within that circle of fire with us. It is a flame of time that glows less brightly with his passing. My memories of those times, would be so much the lesser without Mark in them.

Mark and I were friends and also neighbors.  I must admit that I had  a huge crush on him in my Freshman year in high school.  RIP my friend.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
